Allow me to be frank: I have very little experience with corporate law. But, I do know that a lot of my friends, family, acquaintances, and colleagues own their own business and/or pursue their own business endeavors.
One thing that I rarely hear mentioned is the type of business association that is formed in order to protect the liability of the business owner–and that’s important. Running a business is expensive as it is, but it may be necessary to spend a few more bucks so that you can protect your personal assets. Some examples of business associations include limited liability corporations, limited liability partnerships, and corporations.
If you decide to form a business association, I would highly recommend consulting an attorney. You should also do a little research on your own so that you know a bit about what you are getting yourself into, so visit the web site for your secretary of state.
